State Planning Grant Management |
The Office of Community Health
Development manages the State Planning Grant. In September of 2003, the Nebraska
Department of Health & Human Services applied for and received this grant from the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A twenty-eight member Coalition, appointed
by the Governor, developed the coverage options. The purpose of the grant was to:
- Measure the number
of uninsured in the state
- Identify the
characteristics of those without insurance coverage
- Develop coverage
options to reduce the number of uninsured
- Strengthen the
health care safety net

In the fall of 2005, the Department of Health & Human Services applied for and
received a second State Planning Grant. The purpose of the grant was to focus on the small
employer market. Its goal was to determine the types of insurance policies that would be
acceptable to both small employers and the employees who work for small employers and the
amount they would be willing to pay for these policies.
