The courts send youth under
the age of 18 to YRTC-K for an unspecified amount of time. The youth must be
released on or before his 19th birthday.
When youth arrive at YRTC-K, staff completes an assessment
that includes:
- social history and placment recommendations;
- psychological and personality tests, and;
- assissments in;
- chemical dependency,
- academic,
- vocational, and,
- medical.
This assessment, along with current behavior analysis,
leads to development of an Individualized Treatment Plan for each youth.
The Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) involves the youth's
physical, emotional, religious, educational and social development. The YRTC-K uses
the plan to porvide services and treatment to meet the youth's needs. The YRTC-K and
the youth's Protection and Safety Worker design the youth's ITP. Successfully
returning the youth to the community is the goal of the ITP. The YRTC-K involves
youth in numerous community service projects. Youth experience positive contribution
to the community through service work in order to promote the same behavior during their
adult life.
