Cardiovascular Health Program Cardiovascular Disease Mortality and Risk Factors by Nebraska's Local Public Health Department Regions Purpose: The following report contains information on cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality and related risk factors broken out for each of the LB 692 funded local public health departments in Nebraska. Mortality data are from years 1999-2003 and include indicators for total CVD, heart disease, sudden cardiac death, and stroke. Risk factor data are from years 1995-2003 and include indicators for diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol screening, high blood cholesterol, unhealthy eating, physical inactivity, obesity, cigarette smoking, and health care coverage. This report was designed to provide local health professionals a readily available source of information from which to increase awareness and form strategies for facilitating community outreach and education, with regards to the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease. This report also provides state health professionals with better information on the geographic variation in cardiovascular disease that can be used to aid in state planning efforts and improve collaborative efforts between state and local health professionals.
