Well Drilling
Water Well Drilling Supervisor means any individual engaged in the construction or decommissioning of water wells. Such supervisor may have discretionary and supervisory authority over other employees of a water well contractor and must be employed by a water well contractor. (Well Professions definitions continued)
Water Well Contractor means the principal officer, director, manager or owner-operator of any business engaged in the construction or decommissioning of water wells.
Water Well Monitoring Technician means any individual engaged solely in the measuring of ground water levels, the collection of ground water samples from existing water wells or the inspection of installed water well equipment or pumping systems. This person does not need to work under a water well contractor and may NOT supervise the work of others.
Natural Resources Ground Water Technician means any individual employed by a natural resources district and engaged in the inspection of chemigation systems, measuring and recording static water levels, inspection and servicing of flow meters and water sampling practices and techniques and may NOT supervise the work of others.
Pump Installation Contractor means the principal officer, director, manager or owner-operator of any business engaged in the installation of pumps and pumping equipment or decommissioning of water wells.
Pump Installation Supervisor means any individual engaged in the installation of pumps and pumping equipment or the decommissioning of water wells. Such supervisor may have discretionary and supervisory authority over other employees of a pump installation contract and must be employed by a pump installation contractor.
Requirements for Licensure/Certification:
To qualify for licensure you must:
- Be at least the age of majority;
- Produce satisfactory evidence of good moral character;
- Demonstrate professional competence by achieving a score of at least 70% on each of the applicable examinations;
- Pay the appropriate application fee and license/certificate fee;
- Furnish proof of a current public liability and property damage insurance policy in the sum of at least $100,000 if applying for a contractors license; and
- Comply with the Water Well Standards and Contractors Licensing Act and all standards, rules, and regulations.
To qualify for certification you must:
- Demonstrate professional competence by achieving a score of at least 70% on each of the applicable examinations;
- Pay the appropriate application fee and license/certificate fee;
- Comply with the Water Well Standards and Contractors Licensing Act and all standards, rules, and regulations.
To apply for a Natural Resource Ground Water Technician Certificate you will need to submit the following:
- A completed
application;
- Successful completion of the natural resource ground water technician exam;
- Application fee; and
- Certification fee.
To apply for a Pump Installation Contractor License you must submit the following:
- A completed
application;
- Documentation of proof of insurance of at least $100,000;
- Proof of age of majority (certified copy of birth certificate, marriage license or drivers license);
- Two affidavits of moral character;
- Successful completion of the Nebraska exam and pump installation contractor exam;
- Application fee; and
- Licensure fee.
To apply for a Pump Installation Supervisor Certificate you must submit the following:
- A completed
application;
- Successful completion of the Nebraska exam and pump installation supervisor exam;
- Application fee; and
- Certification fee.
To apply for a Water Well Monitoring Technician Certificate you must submit the following:
- A completed
application;
- Successful completion of the Nebraska exam and water well monitoring exam;
- Application fee; and
- Certification fee.
To apply for a Well Drilling Contractor License you must submit the following:
- A completed
application;

To apply for a Well Drilling Supervisor Certificate/Water Well Monitoring Technician Certificate you must submit the following:

- Successful completion of the Nebraska exam, well drilling exam, and water well monitoring exam;
- Application fee; and
- Certification fee.
To apply for a Temporary Hardship License/Certificate you must submit the following:
- Completed
application for the license or certificate;
- A written description of the hardship; and
- The appropriate fee.
The Department may grant this license/certificate without examination provided that all other requirements are fulfilled by the applicant when the current license holder/certificate holder for the same contractor has died or for other good cause which must be shown and approved by the Water Well Standards and Contractors Licensing Board.

Upgrade/Downgrade
To upgrade a certificate you must meet the requirements of such upgrade, submit the applicable fee and request such upgrade on the renewal notice.
To downgrade a license you must meet the requirements of such downgrade, submit the applicable fee and such downgrade on the renewal notice.

Renewal Information
- All licenses/certificates expire December 31st of every year.
- To renew a license/certificate, the licensee/certificate holder must submit the Renewal Notice, meet the continuing education (CE) requirement, and pay the licensure/certification fee.
- Renewal fees are the same as the initial licensure/certification fees.
- A renewal notice will be sent out to the last known address of record on the following dates:
- First renewal notice is sent on or before November 1st, and
- Second notice to be sent on or before December 15th by certified mail.
- A final notice is sent on or before January 15th of the new year, by certified mail to the licensee/certificate holder to inform him/her of the expiration of his/her license/certificate. The license/certificate holder may still be renewed within the 60 day grace period if the renewal fee plus the penalty fee are paid and the CE hours are current. The penalty fee is $25 for license holders and $25 for certificate holders.
Continuing Education
Notarized affidavit of 18 hours of continuing education (CE) (required triennially from year of issuance)

18 hours of approved continuing education are required for renewal of your certificate. These credits must have been earned within the 36 months proceeding the date of expiration. Hours completed prior to this time will not be accepted as continuing education. Hours earned in excess of the requirement may not be carried over for the next certificate renewal period.

When the request is to return to a name that is already on registry record (e.g., maiden name or previous married name), written proof of the legal basis for the name change is not required.

Duplicates/Reissue
Duplicates: A duplicate large license or small license card may be requested at the time of initial licensure.
Reissue: A large license and/or small license card may be reissued when the licensee requests: additional documents; replacement of original document(s) due to loss, mutilation or destruction; or replacement of document(s) due to a name change.
To request a reissued license, you must submit a
request for reissuance.
