Physician Locum Tenens
Temporary Practice rights also known as Locum Tenens may be granted to physicians and
surgeons who are duly licensed to practice medicine and surgery in another state.
Osteopathic
Physician and Surgeon
An osteopathic physician and surgeon is a person who has earned the degree
of D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine). Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons are
qualified in the diagnosis or treatment of diseases, ailments, pain, deformity, or any
physical or mental condition or injury of human beings.
Physician Assistant
A Physician Assistant means any person who graduates from a program approved by the Accrediation Review Commission on Education for
the Physician Assistant (ACR-PA)and the board, who satisfactorily completes a
proficiency exam, and whom the Board and Department of Health and Human Services
approves to perform medical services under the supervision of a physician or group of
physicians approved by the board to supervise a Physician Assistant.
Physician and
Surgeon
A Physician and Surgeon is a person who has earned the degree of M.D. (Doctor of
Medicine). Physicians and Surgeons are qualified in the diagnosis or treatment of
diseases, ailments, pain, deformity, or any physical or mental condition or injury of
human beings.
Temporary Educational Permit
The Temporary Educational Permit (TEP) for medicine and surgery permits the holder to
practice medicine and surgery, osteopathic medicine and surgery or any of their allied
specialties in a supervised educational program approved by the Nebraska Board of Medicine
and Surgery.

The Physician Temporary Visiting Faculty Permit (TVFP) for medicine and surgery can be
issued to any person who is serving as a member of the faculty of an accredited hospital,
school or college of medicine in Nebraska.
