The Division of Public Health brings together all the elements of public health within
the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
This Division is responsible for preventive and community health programs and services.

is also responsible for the regulation and licensure of health-related professions and
occupations, as well as the regulation and licensure of health care facilities and
services.
Among many things, this Division licenses physicians and other health care
professionals, ensures the safety of our drinking water, provides HIV counseling and
testing, inspects nursing homes, and investigates disease outbreaks. Vital Records, which
can provide copies of birth and death certificates, is part of this Division as well.
The Division of Public Health includes public health programs like WIC, Tobacco Free
Nebraska, WISEWOMAN, Minority Health, and Emergency Medical Services.
Data systems like the Nebraska Cancer Registry, the Birth Defects Registry, and the
Parkinsons Disease Registry are administered in this Division.
